Zhouya is an associate based in our Shanghai office. Before joining the firm, she worked at an international shipping law firm for more than six years, where she trained and qualified as an English solicitor.
Her practice focuses on shipping, shipbuilding, commodities, and general commercial disputes. She has extensive experience in a wide range of arbitral regimes ‒ such as HKIAC, LMAA, SCMA, and ICC ‒ and in ad hoc arbitration. She also has experience in Hong Kong High Court litigation. Zhouya is also frequently instructed on transactional work, such as assisting trading companies to establish long-term cooperation frameworks with counterparties in trade and transportation; reviewing and negotiating long-term time charterparties for different types of vessels; advising shipyards on novating and assigning shipbuilding contracts; and advising on the sale and purchase of second-hand vessels.
Zhouya has acted for clients including shipowners, shipyards, charterers, P&I clubs, banks, and high-net-worth individuals, among them state-owned companies, Fortune 500 companies, and listed companies.
Recent cases include Hong Kong and London arbitrations involving ship sale and purchase, bunker quality disputes, COVID-19 crew infections, seaworthiness of vessels, underperformance, misrepresentation, demurrage, and shipbuilding disputes.
