Finlay is an associate in Reed Smith’s Energy & Natural Resources Group. Based in our Dubai office, Finlay specialises in construction and offshore oil and gas disputes, with a particular focus on international arbitration.
He has extensive experience advising both local and international companies in complex and multi-jurisdictional litigation and international arbitration proceedings.
Finlay has advised on arbitrations seated in London, Paris, Dubai and Doha involving a range of international and regional arbitration rules including the ICC, LCIA, DIFC-LCIA and DIAC.
In addition, Finlay frequently advises a range of clients on contentious and non-contentious sanctions issues, primarily involving the impact of U.S. sanctions.
Finlay also has extensive experience acting for clients in disputes concerning fraud and money laundering, including proceedings brought before the High Court of England and Wales and the UAE courts. In particular, he has represented individuals and companies subject to worldwide freezing orders and other interim measures.
Finlay previously worked for the disputes practice of an international law firm in Dubai and at a prominent London-based firm handling complex fraud disputes involving money laundering, tax evasion and embezzlement.
