His proven track record includes leading major FCPA/anti-corruption investigations in Latin America, providing strategic advice to the chair of the Brazilian Competition Authority, supporting the global compliance team of a Fortune 100 company, and assisting Brazilian companies with their projects in the United States.

Rafael regularly assists clients with internal and government investigations involving transnational corruption, cartels, sanctions and export controls, and other unlawful activities such as money laundering, fraud, and sexual harassment. With deep experience building, testing, and enhancing compliance programs, Rafael helps his clients adhere to the FCPA, the UK Bribery Act, Brazil’s Clean Company Act, and global sanctions and antitrust laws, providing guidance that ensures his clients mitigate risks and maintain robust compliance frameworks.

Beyond investigations and compliance, Rafael provides strategic counsel on corporate transactions and international litigation, including commercial disputes, cross-border discovery, and Section 1782 applications for asset recovery.

Rafael’s academic credentials include a Ph.D. and master’s degree from the University of São Paulo, an LL.M. from Stanford Law School, and a Visiting Program at the University of Barcelona. As a scholar, he authored Brazil’s first book on corporate monitors, cited by DOJ-appointed monitors, and has published extensively on anti-corruption and antitrust law. Rafael is also frequently invited to deliver presentations at conferences and legal classes.

He has also contributed to anti-corruption and antitrust education initiatives in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the International Olympic Committee.
