Reed Smith has contributed to a new guide examining how engagement on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues can benefit fixed income investors.

The guide highlights ways to engage with bond issuers on ESG matters in order to identify and manage ESG-related risks, and increasingly also to maximise positive ESG outcomes. It focuses on ESG engagement with companies –including financial institutions – as opposed to government and government-related issuers.  A number of case studies are also included to provide practical guidance to investors.

The guide includes commentary from Reed Smith’s James Fisher and Simon Hugo, focusing on the contractual and regulatory framework governing such engagement. Several other Reed Smith lawyers also contributed to the guide.
