Three Reed Smith partners – Miami-based José I. Astigarraga and M. Cristina Cárdenas; and Houston-based Nicholas Borda – have earned rankings from Chambers and Partners for their work in Latin America and Mexico.

Astigarraga, ranked band 1 for International Arbitration - Latin America-wide, “employs his exceptional knowledge of arbitration matters to assist an array of prestigious corporate clients with highly sophisticated commercial and investor-state arbitration cases in the region,” Chambers and Partners reported.

Borda, who joined Reed Smith in January 2020, “benefits from a long track record in the Mexican energy and natural resources domain. He is qualified to practice in both Mexico and the USA,” Chambers and Partners said.

Cardenas is “recognized for her significant experience representing corporate clients in noteworthy investor-state and commercial arbitration matters. She continues to impress interviewees with her knowledge, as one relates: ‘She knows the region and the law back to front,’” according to Chambers and Partners.

Further, Reed Smith’s Latin America-wide International Arbitration practice is also ranked. Chambers described it as: “Deeply admired dispute resolution practice highly sought after for its Latin American arbitration expertise. Excels at handling complex commercial arbitration cases, frequently advising clients on claims arising out of construction and financial disputes. Also adept at representing investors in significant investment treaty arbitration mandates.”
